Natural hair remedies can repair your hair without any nasty chemicals for half the price.

Natural ingredients can create the best results when it comes to beauty and wellbeing, so it’s important to use natural remedies on our hair. Our skin and scalp absorbs anything we put on it, so when we use chemicals in hair products our skin is soaking them up. There are many different everyday pantry items that can be used as natural substitutes to create healthier hair.

1. For dry hair

Olive oil is a great home remedy for dry hair that helps strengthen and add shine. If you don’t have any olive oil handy, coconut oil, almond oil, castor oil, jojoba oil and corn oil can be used as well. All of these oils are rich in vitamin E and antioxidants which helps seal the outer hair layer with moisture.

To prepare this home remedy:

  1. Warm but do not boil around half a cup of oil.
  2. Gently massage it into the hair for a few minutes.
  3. Cover the hair with a warm towel.
  4. Leave for 30−45 minutes or overnight.
  5. After this time, shampoo and rinse the hair.

2. For damaged hair

If you regularly style or use heat on your hair it can start to feel damaged and fragile, but a natural fix to try is avocado and olive oil. Avocados and olive oil are both full of fatty acids and proteins that can absorb deep down into your hair follicles to help repair damage.

To prepare this home remedy:

  1. Mash ¼ of a medium avocado with a fork.
  2. Add ½ tsp of olive oil to the avocado and blend or whisk until creamy (use less oil for fine hair).
  3. Massage the mixture onto clean damp hair.
  4. Leave the mixture in for 20 minutes and then rinse thoroughly with warm water.

3. To encourage growth

On average your hair grows approximately 0.63 centerminters every month and while this process can’t speed up with hair products alone you can change the quality of hair that grows. In order to do this you need to stimulate a higher percentage of hair follicles in the scalp, which will keep more hair in the growing phase. This makes your hair healthier, thicker and overall gives it more volume. A natural remedy that helps are eggs as they contain lecithin and protein, which can strengthen, nourish, and heal your strands.

To prepare this home remedy:

  1. Mix 2 eggs with 2 tbsps of olive oil.
  2. Add ½ a cup of water to the mixture.
  3. Apply the make to dry brushed hair and leave it on for up to 30 minutes.
  4. Then shampoo and condition as usual.

4. For an oily scalp

If you regularly have an overly oily scalp you can try a peppermint tea rinse to help balance out your natural oils. The mint in the tea acts as an astringent which in turn helps get rid of excess oil.

To prepare this home remedy:

  1. Boil ½ a cup of water and add 3 peppermint tea bags to the water for 3-5 minutes or until the tea is very concentrated.
  2. Let the mixture cool. You can even just leave the tea bags in the water while it’s cooling.
  3. Then after shampooing, apply the mixture to your scalp with a cotton ball and leave on for 5 minutes.
  4. Then rinse and follow with your conditioner.
